I am a qualified and experienced herbalist with BSc honours degree in Herbal Medicine from Middlesex University, London. Since qualifying as a medical herbalist in 2003 I have gained funding for a community project making herbal medicine available to those that would not normally be able to access such provision and have provided private herbal health consultations with Napiers in Central London and the Haelan Centre in North London.
In private practice I work with individuals of all ages and use herbal medicine alongside dietary advice for most conditions. In addition to private practice I continue to offer practical herbal workshops, talks and guided walks. On occasion I work with Melissa Ronaldson Medical Herbalist on the herbal barge Stormvogel, a floating herbal apothecary.
Inspiration for this lifetime study stemmed from my first degree in English, Spanish and Latin American Studies during which I spent one year living and working in Merida, Venezuela whilst writing my dissertation on traditional women healers ‘curanderas’ and improving my Spanish. My interest in natural medicines began in South America and developed further whilst later living in Spain where I became interested in food as medicine. I am a fluent Spanish speaker.
I am particularly interested in promoting health education and encouraging and enabling individuals to take responsibility for their own health and well being. I am currently teaching at The Mary Ward Centre in Central London where I first studied herbal medicine with pioneering herbalist Christopher Hedley. As a teacher/facilitator I am known for my friendly, informal teaching style.
